I didn’t use to be the kind of person who cares about the precise details of dental hygiene. But my lack of care eventually cost me multiple trips to the dentist’s office. Since I absolutely despite sitting on that dental chair, I decided to take oral care more seriously. I started off by looking for a quality electric toothbrush and ended up with Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite+.
Brushing with this sonic brush along with mouthwash and flossing has immensely improved my oral health in the last two years. I am happy and so is my dentist. While it’s not the cheapest electric brush in the market, it’s certainly a huge value for money. The precision cleaning and ease-of-use offered by this device are genuinely hard to beat, even by many pricier models.
Sure it is not equipped with numerous cleaning modes or anything like top-tier electric toothbrushes. But it does have everything most people will need to keep their teeth strong, and blemish-free.
Before I explain the major feature in detail, here’s a quick overview if you are in a hurry:

Philips Sonicare Healthy White Plus Detailed Review
Now that you have got a rough idea about what this electric brush offers, it’s time to delve into deeper details. This mid-range electric brush is specially designed to eliminate plaque, debris and yellow stains from both the surface and tiny corners of the teeth. What impresses me the most is that it doesn’t have any redundant features.
The number of features are very limited which makes sense, given the price. There’s no pressure sensor or a multitude of brush heads included in the box.
Nonetheless, it has everything most people will ever need to maintain good oral hygiene. And that’s what matters, at the end of the day.
Here’s how Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite+ manages to save me a lot of money on my month dental care expenses:
Look and Feel
I love the simple and straightforward design of this brush. The brush head is slightly tilted to easily reach all corners of the mouth. Its handle is made from hard plastic and slightly on the beefier side. There are lightly textured rubber strips at the back of the handle to ensure a solid grip.
The LED lights at the front will help you keep track of the cleaning mode, intensity and battery status. HealthyWhite’s pure white frame and minimalistic design lend a plush vibe. It looks great on my bathroom countertop.
The patented sonic technology of Philips Sonicare sends high-frequency vibrations which results in 31000 brush strokes per minute. At this tremendous speed, the brush head can drive the cleaning liquid thoroughly between your teeth gaps and gumline. In simple words, this sonic technology is powerful enough to flush out all the gunk from the small gaps of your teeth and gum line.
The product box includes 1 specialized brush head equipped with diamond-shaped medium-stiff bristles and a central stain-removal pad. The unique attributes of the brush head help with fast and effective plaque removal. The way it effortlessly dislodges stubborn food particles from the tricky spot of my teeth is admirable.
You’ll notice that the head sits on the tip at 45-degree angle for optimal cleaning efficiency. With the right settings and quality whitening toothpaste, you can remove stains left by tea, coffee, wine, sugary and acidic foods in a few weeks.
Depending on the intensity setting and the frequency of brushing, each head can last for about 2-3 months. The heads are interchangeable, allowing you to mix and match various snap-on brushing heads by Sonicare.
Six Customizable Settings
You can personalize your brushing experience with its 3 vibration intensity (Low, Medium, and High) and 2 cleaning modes. The Clean mode is the regular setting that lets you brush for full 2 minutes (30 sec in each quadrant of the mouth).
This mode is ideal for someone with sensitive teeth, dental implants, braces or crowns. My go-to mode is the “White” mode which adds an additional 30 seconds to the brushing time. It not only cleans but also polishes the surface of the teeth to get rid of unsightly yellow stains.
Pair it up with a good teeth whitening toothpaste and you’ll definitely notice a visible difference in the appearance of your teeth. Extra points for the mild tickling sensation it provides to the gum while brushing. It feels like getting a spa for my mouth.
Easy Start Ramp up Cycle
This is by far the most thoughtful addition in all Sonicare electric toothbrushes. The Easy Start option helps new users get accustomed to the powerful vibration of the brush head. Once you activate it, the smart brush will gradually increase the pace over 12 brushing sessions.
Note that you need to brush for at least 1 minute for all those 12 sessions to complete the easy start ramp up cycle. To activate the cycle, all you have to do is press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. If you hear a beep, it’s activated. To deactivate, follow the exact same step.
SmartTimer and Quadpacer
These two are basically fancy names for Sonicare’s built-in timer. Together, these two features encourage you two brush each quadrant of your mouth for 30 seconds in the default cleaning mode (or a few seconds longer in the “White mode).
Every time the timer beeps, you have to slowly move the brush to the other corner. It might not sound like a big deal on paper but it does keep you from under or over-brushing your teeth.
Battery and Charging
The battery on this a complete show-stealer. Once you fully charge it, you can forget about charging again for several weeks. I mostly use the White mode at the highest speed twice a day, so mine lasts about 2-2.5 weeks.
In high-speed clean mode, the beast runs for almost 3.5 weeks. I’m sure the battery will last even longer on lower settings. The charging stand is included in the box and it operates on both 110v and 220V which is an excellent news for travelers.
This Sonicare brush doesn’t operate in complete silence. It’s not monster-truck loud and the high vibration is still quite audible. That’s the only minor issue with an otherwise perfect electric toothbrush.
You don’t buy an electric toothbrush for fancy features. You buy it for its cleaning prowess. And that’s where Sonicare HealthyWhite+ sets a benchmark for its direct competitors. Every brushing session with this tool feels like getting a professional cleaning from a seasoned hygienist.
I am sure the majority of its existing user base will agree with me on this. Like all electric toothbrushes, this one too has a learning curve. However, anyone will get the hang of it after one or two washes, even the kids. Hope I have made my point here. I’ll leave the rest up to you.
