Tom’s of Maine Antiplaque Toothpaste
Tom’s of Maine is a toothpaste brand which uses natural ingredients and makes toothpaste without Fluoride. Unlike most natural toothpaste formulas, the fluoride free formula used by Tom’s of Maine does not make its toothpaste as thick in texture.
You need toothpaste that you want to use every day, one that makes you feel clean & fresh, not just something icky that you put in your mouth to fight plaque buildup.
If you are not a fan of artificial products and you are more into natural ingredients that work, this is it!
No artificial dyes, sweeteners or flavors are used in this toothpaste. It is an anti-plaque & whitening toothpaste which is good for everyone since it is gluten free, halal & kosher certified.
The toothpaste comes in a 5.5 oz. pack in variants of peppermint, spearmint, spearmint gel & fennel. The natural flavors used for your taste buds will interest you to keep brushing, unlike other natural toothpastes.
Fluoride is a debatable ingredient for dental hygiene, so for those with a strict intolerance for it will definitely benefit from the fluoride free formula of Tom’s of Maine. If you want healthy teeth and gums without exposing them to chemical substances then this is the right choice for you.
My impression
Tom’s of Maine is effective in fighting plaque buildup with its fluoride free formula. So for those of you suffering from rapid plaque buildup can get help from using this toothpaste.
The fluoride free formula will be an instant hit with those of us that steer clear from the traditional fluoride based toothpastes. Also, those of us that are looking for a natural toothpaste formula will also be a fan of this toothpaste. It will ensure lower plaque buildup combined with its whitening formula.
So if you are looking for fresh breath, white teeth and healthy gums with lower plaque buildup then the Tom’s of Maine – Antiplaque & Whitening toothpaste is the right choice!
I would buy Tom’s of Maine for myself.
What could be better?
Tom’s of Maine has recently added Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) in its formula which is not safe for everyone. So, people with allergies may get mouth ulcers from using it after eating acidic foods like vinegar & pineapple.
Davids Antiplaque Natural Toothpaste

My impression
I do prefer natural toothpaste free from fluoride & Sulfate but my experience with them have not been so good. Most natural toothpastes leave your mouth feeling unclean, chalky & dry. The strong, natural peppermint flavor lingers in your mouth to give a sense of freshness that lasts.
The aftertaste of Davids toothpaste is also much better than other natural toothpastes. The taste, smell & overall feel, is much better than other natural ingredients based products.
There is a lack of foamy feeling since it is fluoride free but when you can feel your clean teeth, you won’t miss the foam or the stains left on your teeth from fluoride.
The packaging, design of the tube and the tube roller is just adorable!
I would buy Davids for myself as I love natural ingredients based products.
What could be better?
Davids looks like the complete package, which is best in quality, popularity and customers’ feedback. This could be the toothpaste to lower the number of times you visit your dentist’s office.
I feel a tube roller with every individual toothpaste tube is a waste.
Colgate Toothpaste for Plaque Removal

My impression
Colgate is a big brand and its marketing is extensive, making it popular with more people across the globe. I find Colgate Total Whitening Gel toothpaste to be average in its performance in comparison to other toothpastes. The results are not massively different from other toothpaste manufacturers.
The use of fluoride gives it the traditional foamy feel which most people enjoy while brushing their teeth. Regardless of the debatable effects of fluoride on our teeth, Colgate effectively keeps teeth & mouth feeling nice, clean and healthy.
Grab your tube of Colgate today which even guarantees a better kissing experience!
I don’t usually go for the commercially big brands for myself but Colgate is not the worst among them.
What could be better?
The commercial use of Fluoride and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in dental hygiene products is a concern. But big brands like Colgate should assure consumers that they are not at risk by these ingredients.
Taking a stand about this issue will build better brand value & grow its reputation.
CloSYS Fluoride Toothpaste for Plaque Removal
CloSYS fluoride toothpaste is an absolute consumer favorite. People absolutely love the results of using this toothpaste compared to the big commercial brand name toothpastes.
CloSYS delivers in its promise by offering a powerful formula that kills harmful bacteria which lead to plaque, gum disease, and other dental problems. It is still gentle enough for daily usage, even for people with moderate sensitivity issues.
While offering the best of overall health for your mouth, CloSYS is fluoride based toothpaste, but in such a little amount that any potential threat in minimized. So you do get the moderate foaming while you brush away your cavities, bad breath and plaque buildup. CloSYS does not use the widely unpopular ingredient Sodium Lauryl Sulfate which is linked to mouth ulcers in some users.
It also removes common stains on your teeth from coffee, tea and wine with twice daily usage. For advanced oral care benefits, use it as often as necessary without any irritation. The toothpaste is gentle on your gums and tooth enamel for brushing often.
My impression
I think CloSYS is one of the best toothpastes out there. It does not use the harmful ingredient Sodium Lauryl Sulfate which is commonly used by other big brands. The minimal amount of fluoride used is not harmful as it maintains a good balance.
I found it to be most effective in providing complete care from teeth whitening, gum inflammation, bad breath and plaque formation. It is also perfect for those with no dental issues to maintain a healthy mouth by frequent, everyday use.
One of the most impressive benefits of using CloSYS is its sensitivity care formula. Compared to more well-known toothpaste brands that claim to be made specifically for sensitivity, it works much better!
I would buy CloSYS for myself as I believe its formula is one of the best combinations of scientific & natural ingredients.
What could be better?
I feel the flavor could be slightly better; the mild flavoring could use a little boost for a stronger, fresher one. Generally, the longer we feel the flavor in our mouth, the more refreshed we tend to feel.
The manufacturer of CloSYS has recently implemented coconut based ingredients and for those who are allergic to coconut products, its bad news.
Parodontax Clean Mint Toothpaste for Bleeding Gums
Parodontax is a specialist in dealing with bleeding gums. This fluoride based toothpaste claims to be clinically proven for reducing the bleeding of gums. It is especially made for better gum health.
It is strong enough to keep gums from bleeding while gentle enough to be used twice daily by helping to keep gums healthy, to make your teeth strong, and to keep your breath smelling fresh.
Bleeding gums is not normal! Healthy gums won’t bleed and if they do, get a tube of Parodontax toothpaste. Untreated bleeding gums can lead to gum disease and even the loss of teeth. So start using this toothpaste immediately if you have sensitive gums that bleed, swollen gums, bad breath, etc. before your gum problems lead to gingivitis.
Gingivitis is a serious problem and Parodontax helps to reverse the bad effects of it. It removes bacteria that buildup plaque which can lead to gingivitis. The Clean Mint flavor also gives you a refreshing feel while preventing cavities and overall whiter looking teeth.
My impression
I was unaware of the seriousness of bleeding gums. Since they come and go; bleeding gums can be easy to ignore! This can lead to severe gum disease with risks leading to the need of oral surgery. You can avoid the buildup of serious problems with your gums by starting Parodontax immediately.
Plaque buildup causes gum inflammation, which is followed by bleeding gums and then more serious gum diseases. Keep your gums healthy and if they are already weak, then reverse their condition with proper daily care using specialist toothpastes.
Even with specialist toothpastes, the need to floss, rinse and brushing after meals is a must for the best results for healthy gums, strong teeth and fresh breath.
I would buy Parodontax to treat my bleeding gums any day!
What could be better?
The tube size of Parodontax is significantly smaller than its competitors.
This may be an issue or a strategy by the manufacturer. Either way, it would be better for the brand value if this is resolved.
Marvis Whitening Mint Toothpaste
The Marvis Whitening toothpaste is pure class!
It is stylish and will enhance the look of your wash basin any given day. Not only is the packaging sharp, the sharp taste of the mint freshness works effectively to give you a refreshing smile.
The toothpaste is mainly a whitening agent so you will get the bright smile you desire along with its fresh aroma for your breath. It is also helpful in preventing tooth decay, reducing tartar and plaque buildup.
Marvis is definitely a more luxury line oral care product to give your daily brushing a classy experience. Its cleansing formula is gentle on your gums without any irritation or burning sensation.
The seven different distinctive colors represent the various flavors and its long-lasting refreshing effects. It is not only free of fluoride, but also free from paraben, gluten, and cruelty (as it is a vegan product).
Marvis is an imported luxury item from Florence, Italy. The Italian brand has been popular in its homeland for many generations and its unique style has caught on as an export luxury within personal care products.
My impression
It was quite a shock to discover that the Marvis toothpaste tube came without an individual seal. While many consumers may be put off by the idea, it does not mean that the product is used or the seal is broken. The European consumer policy does not require them to be sealed since it uses fluoride free toothpaste formula.
Due to its mild cleansing effect, users of Marvis toothpastes must not skip brushing their teeth thoroughly after every meal.
Teeth sensitivity will not be an issue since it’s not too abrasive on your teeth. But for those with bleeding gums and other dental issues, there are better toothpastes on this list.
I would definitely pick up a tube of Marvis for a stylish washroom and for a gentle everyday cleansing.
What could be better?
The Italian Marvis is definitely a dashing accessory for your washroom but I feel it still needs to improve on its features as a toothpaste formula. Other brands of toothpastes offer far better overall protection than the toothpaste formula of Marvis.
What Causes Plaque on Teeth and How Plaque Formation Can Be Prevented?
The most common cause of plaque buildup is food!
Sugary and starchy foods (that’s basically all carbohydrates!) allow the bacteria in our mouth to thrive like the baby boomers. Over time these bacteria produce acids which destroy the enamel (the smooth polishing) of our teeth, leaving our teeth feeling rough or edgy.
Try feeling your teeth using your tongue right now and you will know if you have plaque building up. The following are some such food items (sugars & starches): milk, soft drinks & most beverages, raisins, cakes & pastries, sweets, candy & chocolates.
Now, these food items are not bad for you (junk food is not necessarily healthy anyway!) but the residue leftover from these foods, or even from other healthy foods, is what harms your teeth, mouth, gums and breath.
You don’t have to ban these foods or any food! You just need to make sure that you clean your mouth properly after every meal or snack for the best oral care. Now let’s look into some of the most common issues related to plaque buildup:
- Particular foods & drinks that we should care with
There are certain food items, as I mentioned above, which are particularly responsible for plaque buildup. These are all the good things you can think of that fall under junk food or snack. Soda, ice cream, cookies, candy, chips etc., are more than likely to help plaque buildup in your mouth.
In general, these are food items or beverages that are not easily washed away by a sip of water or our saliva. So, they stay for a long time and allow the bacteria to flourish. When we frequently consumer such junk food items, the acids get to work on harming our teeth. So, our teeth are left to protect themselves all alone until we brush or otherwise clean our mouths.
- Clean our mouths after eating
Given the amount of foods, snacks & beverages we consumer in a normal day, we do not brush, rinse, or floss enough to give our teeth to fight against the potential bacteria & germs building up. No matter how much food we consume, if we clean our teeth after eating (that’s every meal & every snack), then the plaque cannot build up and our teeth will not be under threat of decaying.
- How & when to clean our mouths
Cleaning our teeth is not limited to brushing after waking up and before going to sleep. That’s only half the work! An average person has 3 meals a day. So, we need to get in the habit of brushing after breakfast, lunch & dinner. If you are someone who is a heavy snack-er, then you need to brush after snacks & drinks as well. Brushing is not able to clean away all food particles from our mouth so get in the habit of flossing at night. This way, all the food you had throughout the day does not get a chance to harm your teeth throughout the night. We also need to ensure that we rinse multiple times daily!
- What happens if we don’t take proper oral care
If proper dental / oral care is not maintained the path we go down is that of decaying teeth. Now this does not start from our smile, it commonly starts towards the back where we don’t have much of our attention. There are plenty of spaces for food to be stuck in as we chew and without proper care, they remain there slowly decaying every tooth one by one. Our gums tend to become weaker and gaps are created in between the gums & the teeth. This can lead to sensitivity, bleeding gums and other gum diseases such as gingivitis.
- What experts have to say
Experts suggest that the best way to prevent plaque buildup is complete dental & oral care. Dentists recommend that we brush twice daily with a soft brush and especially where the teeth and gums meet. I suggest brushing after every meal for even better results. Also, nutritionists recommend switching our snack habits to healthy alternatives such as yogurt, cheese, fruit or raw vegetables. I personally prefer adding plenty of normal water to our daily routine. Water is helpful for our overall health and it also helps in slowing tooth decay by offering protective natural minerals for our teeth.
Things to consider while choosing the best toothpaste for plaque removal
The weapon-of-choice when fighting plaque buildup is your toothbrush and the toothpaste is your ammo!
Once you have chosen the right weapon (your toothbrush) you must pick the right ammo (your toothpaste) for the best defense against plaque buildup. It is often easy for us ignore the importance of a good toothbrush partnered with the right toothpaste.
When you think about brushing 3-4 times a day then you should be fully aware of what you’re putting in your mouth. Given all the chemicals being used today in every industry, we need to know what kind of chemicals we are exposing ourselves to everyday and will continue to do for the rest of our lives!
So, consider the following things when choosing the right toothpaste to fight your battles against plaque & oral disease causing germs:
- Ingredients
We often look at the picture, the commercials and what our friends & family use when picking our toothpaste. But the first thing we should consider is the ingredients being used. What goes in the making of the toothpaste is definitely important.
So read the list of ingredients and make yourself aware of the good & bad of dental care. Find out what you may be allergic to such as Fluoride or Sulfate. Most commercial brands use these two chemicals and many people complain of the potential side effects of them, regardless if they are allergic or not.
- Type of Toothpaste
The type of the toothpaste is not just what the flavor is. Every brand makes several different versions of their toothpaste formula specifically designed for certain benefits. If you are suffering from sensitivity issues, cavities, bleeding gums, gingivitis, or any other dental conditions, then you should choose the toothpaste for the particular protection.
If you have healthy teeth & gums, but just want a whitening or everyday cleansing protection, then you should pick that particular type of toothpaste. This will ensure that your teeth & gums are not unnecessarily exposed to a formula that you don’t specifically need.
- The Flavor
Reading my last point, I don’t want you to think that the flavor is not important. The flavor of the toothpaste is extremely important. You want a toothpaste flavor that excites you and motivates you to keep brushing daily. With a flavor of your choice, you are more than likely to be in the mood for a quick brush after every meal.
Along with the flavor, the taste & feel of the toothpaste is also crucial. For example, if your toothpaste is too salty, you will not enjoy brushing your teeth! Just like that, pick a paste that tastes good to you and feels good in your mouth. The worst feeling is when you just brushed your teeth and you don’t feel fresh.
- The Price
Now, those of us who are always considering the price of every little thing may be cheap, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing. When comparing prices, we think about value for money, quality, and many other factors. This means that we are truly judging a product’s worth. So, do that for your toothpaste and make the best choice!
Judging the price will give you helpful insights about the size, the quality, the packaging, the worth of the toothpaste to you. You will also consider the lesser known brands which are not spending big on commercials. Don’t just pick the most or least expensive. Judge its worth!
Conclusion
The best toothpaste for plaque removal will not magically clear away all the plaque in your teeth!
It takes time and proper care to maintain your healthy set of teeth. Depending on the abuse it gets from sugary sweets, sticky snacks, smoking & drinking, it will need complete care for best results.
Take your time in caring for your teeth by brushing daily (at least twice a day!). I highly recommend you to brush every meal or even a snack for maintaining perfect teeth. Also, try the difficult task of flossing at least every other day, use a mouthwash for proper rinsing every day, and definitely, visit your dentist twice a year.
Don’t just binge on snacks, sweets, soft drinks but try to follow a nutritionally balanced diet with fruits and veggies.
Choose a brand of toothpaste from the list above containing the right formula to prevent plaque buildup and follow basic dental hygiene to keep your smile nice, clean & healthy.
Keep smiling!
